Liverpoo
Sunday, 30 May 2010 13:57

Well, I'm just packing up here in Liverpool and getting ready to head to Nottingham for Just The Tonic Tonight. It's been a while since I've been to The Tonic so it should be fun. I'm told that they have a new purpose built club. Steve Hughes and Reg D Hunter are coming in to Nottingham too, so I'll be able to catch up with them before the show. They're playing some massive rooms on their current tour.

Liverpool was great fun this weekend. Man, there sure are some interesting folk here.  Last nights crowd was probably one of the best that I've seen in a long time, and friday night's was probably one of the drunkest. I had the best laugh when a drunken girl stormed to stage to try and slap the host only to miss and go tumbling over the other side and through the curtain. you can't plot slapstick like that!

I have definitely fulfilled my quota of stag and hen dos as well! Liverpool is obviously a popular destination for these things. I really don't get the whole 'dress the stag up as a woman' thing. Aren't they afraid that doing this to their mate could cause some sort of epiphany and then all of a sudden the next day your mate Gary has called his wedding off and he wants you to call him Sarah from now on.....and it's all your fault fellas! All I'm saying is that I saw a stag last night who seemed a little too proud of his fake boobs.

on a train hurtling along watching bored cows

HELLO BLOG-LOOKER-ATERS, HOW ARE YOU? THAT'S A RHETORICAL QUESTION OF COURSE.
SO, I'M ON MY WAY BACK TO LONDON FROM EDINBURGH AND I SEE THAT THEY HAVE FREE WI-FI ON THESE TRAINS NOW, SO I MIGHT AS WELL MAKE USE OF IT.
IT'S A GOOD THING I CHOSE THE TRAIN THIS WEEKEND TOO, BECAUSE APPARENTLY EDINBURGH AIRPORT WAS SHUT THIS MORNING DUE TO A RESURGENCE IN THE VOLCANIC ANNOYANCE. THAT THING JUST WON'T GO AWAY. I'M STARTING TO THINK THAT MAYBE I SHOULD CAPITALISE THE 'V' IN VOLCANO BECAUSE IT'S BECOME SUCH AN ANNOYANCE THAT IT FEELS PERSONIFIED.
SO, GOOD COMPANY FOR THE WEEKEND IN EDINBURGH, BUT TOUGH GIGS. IT WAS GOOD TO SEE STEVE HARRIS AGAIN. I HAVEN'T CAUGHT UP WITH HIM FOR A WHILE.

It's a good thing I chose the train this weekend too, because apparently  Edinburgh Airport was shut this morning due to a resurgence in the volcanic annoyance. That thing just won't go away. So, good company for the weekend but tough gigs. It was good to see Steve Harris again. I haven't caught up with him for a while. Johnny Candon and I stuck around last night and tried to prove that the alcohol was watered down. With hind sight and judging by this headache, I'd say the tequila definitely wasn't.
Gettin home now for four nights off before I play my favorite comedy club in the world, The Comedy Store, this week. so, no comedy for 4 nights. Well, I will be running around my flat blasting music and cooking in my underwear......I guess that is comedy, but it's just definitely not fit for public consumption....on many levels.

the good l' body shutdown
Sunday, 09 May 2010 08:47

So, why is it that your body always seems to know when you've come to the end of a long journey and you'll have a few days off...... so it can get you sick!?! grrrr

yep, I've been sick as a dog the last few days and I'm sure my body was just saving it up. I spent so much time abroad with the extra 'volcano' time, that I've known I was a bit tired,....but nowhere near as run down as  I've provn to be over the last couple of days!

Well, no rest for the wicked as I'm off to do these Riviera shows now (yep, it's a tough life).... wish me luck tho, as apparently the Volcano i spewing it's Bjork like crap in to the air again and apparently fllghts are  being cancelled. Deja Vu all over again

Back in the UK

Well, the banishment has ceased. It's good to be home too!

thankfully everyone involved with the Sydney Comedy Festival kept me extremely busy, but the fact is once you're on day 42 of a 31 day trip, the fatigue REALLY starts to set in. I think it's also probably becuse you pour all you've got in to days 28-31 because you think you can see the finish line, so afterwards you're really left with nothing in the tank.

It was nice to see that a few Londoners have already stepped up to show me how rude they can be within my first 24 hours back too, starting with the journey home from the airport. I was trying to buy a ticket or the bus and the machine wasn't working but rather than empathise or even help me out, the bus driver was a complete dick and just shut the doors on me and drove off. I laughed it off tho, mostly because I was just so happy to be (almost) home.

The second incident happened today at my gym. There was only one person on the gym floor in an LA Fitness uniform and when I told hm that the paper towel dispensers were out of paper towels he couldn't have reacted like more of a prick. "It's not my problem mate, I just do personal training"....."well, can you tell someone who can fix it?" "It's not really my concern" I was absolutely shocked and really wanted to piss him off, but he was considerably more fit than me and I really didn't want a punch in the face.

I think I'll go barbeue at my buddy's house now and have a good moan. Ahhh it's good to be home!

day 3 of Sydney banishment
Friday, 23 April 2010 07:12

Well, still wakin up at Hugesies' house. The great thing is that so many of my friends are here and it's a good enough party that keeps me distracted from thinking about how I'm in the wrong hemisphere.

The crazy thing is; I'm not supposed to be at the Sydney Comedy Festival and now I'm doing 3 gigs a night here. The Store has given me some work, and I'm also doing a showcase down at the Metro. I actually don't even know why I'm doing a showcase, I have no show to make a case for. There really is no show to promote, but hey, I love the gigs anyway. The room that the showcase is in is a pretty tough one too. High visibility and an awkward stage, with quite an industrial look to the room,......which brings me to my third gig.....

Steve Hughes is also getting me to do his support for his shows in the same room afterwards. He's recording a dvd over the current 3 nights, last night being number 1. Two nights ago we saw how tough the room would be so I'm going on first to 'fall on the sword' for him shall we say. It worked a treat last night tho, he had a ripper, so, we'll be trying the same thing tonight.

I think the dvd is gonna be great, and I've been inspired to sing a tune describing his comedy in a Mary poppins stylee;

"A spoon full of knob gags helps the politics go down"
